It all began in the 1980s with the with the microcomputer revolution. In 1981, IBM created the first personal computer, the PC. It had a microprocessor which makes the computer for personal use and isn't shared with others. When these computers first came out, they weren't being made in large quantities and they only people that had them were mostly technicians. To reduce the cost and size of the computers, they tried using something called an integrated circuit. This eliminated the microprocessor and the cost but the size but they were still bulky and inconvenient. Each computer was weighing about 24 pounds and costing over $1,700. After that came the solid state memory which reduced the price, energy use, cost and bulkiness of the computer. As they began to make computers more accessible, there became a huge demand for them. In the early 21 century, home Wi-Fi blew up. Everyone wanted it. In 2001, billions of computers were being sold worldwide, 38.8% of that in the United States, 25% in Europe, 11.7% in Asia. the studies showed that 40% of homes in Europe had personal computers compared to 1985 where it was only 13%.
