The Battle of Stalingrad was an advance of Nazi forces into Stalingrad, Russia. This was the turning point of World War 2. The German soldiers locked down Stalingrad stopping the flow of food and other goods, starving out the Russians. There was around 750,000 soviet soldier casualties and close to 850,000 German soldiers lives were lost in a seven month battle in 1942 and 1943. Boficisom and Judaism is what Hitler saw in Russia and sought to destroy it. To allow Stalin time to prepare for Hitler's attack he signed a pact that allowed the Nazis to attack Poland. After conquering france and great britain very quickly Stalin knew that he was next with the increasing enemy troops on the Russian border. More than four million troops poured into Russia when the time came for a fight. Russia suffered tremendous losses early on in the attack, but did not fall. Stalin was able to defend the attack on Moscow. Hitler’s army was strong and pushed the red army further and further in retreat. Stalin was foolish to implement a no retreat order for his troops stating that fellow soldiers that run from the front line should be shot. Hitler spread out his troops thinly in order to conquer multiple objective at a time. Sending troops to Stalingrad and the panzer tank forces to the oil fields was a grave mistake by Hitler especially once the red army started producing the infamous T-34 tanks. The old tanks lacked sufficient armour and fire power, but the T-34 had well rounded attributes that gave the soviet army the upper hand in combat because they were so hard to destroy. Once the 6th army or Nazi’s forces reached Stalingrad their troops had been greatly diminished. Hitler was frustrated with the losses from the 6th army and ordered the 4th panzer tank army to assist them on their stand at Stalingrad, with the 4th army approaching Stalingrad from the opposite side. First Hitler’s men ordered a bombing that lasted days taking more than 200,000 civilian lives. Kotluban operations were a series of attacks that tied up Hitler’s tanks forcing the ground troops to rush Stalingrad without the superior fire power of their tanks. Once the 6th army was in Stalingrad, Stalin ordered soviet reinforcements to surround the city marking the impending defeat of the Nazis.
Joseph Stalin
was the dictator of Russia from 1920 to 1953 when he died of a stroke. It used to be thought that Stalin beat Hitler with his superior battle strategy, but now many people believe if he would have let his forces retreat he could have saved a lot of men and beat him sooner.
