The Spartacist Uprising
The Spartacist Uprising was a group of extreme socialists inspired by the Roman Spartacus which was a revolt by slaves in 73BC. The Spartacist Uprising was lead by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht. The Spartacists were communists who wanted the working class to be run by the working class and to overthrow the government. on January 5-15th, 1919, 50,000 workers went on strike and held a protest in the centre of Berlin. The government hired Freikorps (volunteer soldiers who hated communists) and over 300 workers were killed in the “bloody week”. |
